Quality assessment of education at the level of disciplines plays a strong role for academic and professional mobility in the EHEA and the comparability and relevance of qualifications. Field-specific QA-networks have gained continuously importance over the recent years. Labels such as the EUR-ACE Label for the field of engineering or the Eurobachelor/Euromaster Label in the field of chemistry have been operating with great success for some time now.

In 2009 the European stakeholders in and around the European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education (EQANIE) decided to initiate the award of the Euro-Inf Quality Label to accredited degree programmes in the field of informatics. The Label is either awarded directly by EQANIE or in the context of national accreditation, e.g. such as the accreditation agency ASIIN in Germany.

The Euro-Inf Spread Project, supported by the European COmmission in the context of the Lifelong Learning Programme, was launched at about the same time in 2009. Objective of Euro-Inf Spread is to raise awareness throughout Europe of the Euro-Inf Framework Standards and Accreditation Criteria, on which EQANIE bases its accreditation activities. Also, Euro-Inf Spread supports activities directed towards transferring the Euro-Inf approach to quality assurance into other fields, such as continuous professional development.

Two years have passed since EQANIE launched its review activities - a time interval which appears suitable to discuss the progress of activities and make an appraisal of the state of the European academic discipline of informatics in the light of new developments in quality assurance.
The upcoming conference will

  • Discuss the overall role of field-specific quality assurance networks in the Bologna follow-up process,
  • Look at the current status of achievements of the informatics network EQANIE,
  • Present quality initiatives going beyond the assessment of Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, e.g. by related networks such as Informatics Europe,
  • Discuss possibilities for accrediting CPD programmes in the field of informatics,
  • Provide training on how to work with the Euro-Inf learning outcomes in accreditation,
  • Celebrate the award of the 5 first Euro-Inf Quality Labels by EQANIE,
  • Inform about the authorisation process for national bodies to award the Euro-Inf Label on behalf of EQANIE.

The conference is supported by the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme and will contain the main achievements of the Euro-Inf Spread Project (2009-2010).
